Lecture 1

Lecture 1:
Following the first lecture and taking into account the task:
What skills do you have and Who needs them?

I went on to research and think about the following things:

1) What skills do I have?
2) Am I a 'specialist' of anything?
3) Who would need my skills?

I found the 3rd part of that particularly difficult; who would need my skills?
Therefore, I decided to look at designers that I like and their client base as I felt this would give me a better understanding of what/who uses particular styles of work.

In addition to internet based researched, I have been looking through 2 books:
- 'How to be a graphic designer without losing your soul' - I took this out from the library but I think I will be investing in it soon.
- '100 Habits of successful Graphic Designers' - This is my own book and I also think its really helpful.

The 4 P's in relation to me as a designer:
Product -
Graphic Design - Dependent on client.

Place -
UK, North.
Possible worldwide, depending on client base.
However, only language spoken - English.
This does however give me the oppurtunity of working in America if the possibilty came about.

Price -
I would hope to have a studio in my home to save money on rent etc.
Charge would be based upon the hours I expect to spend on a job.

Promotion -
Where I promote my work would ultimately dictate the type of clients I get therefore, I need to research this more in terms of the area where I would be promoting and the type of audience I want to attract.

I really need to do more research, but I hope for it all to be ongoing so; although I will do my 250 words for each task, I will probably want to change them every week after I have found something else out. (I'm not sure if I can do this? But I don't want to just research something and forget about that 'bit')

My research into particular Graphic designers and looking at their 'about me' sections will be in my Enterprise and Innovation folder.
