Proposed position statement.

- As a designer, I don’t want to limit myself to working in one particular ‘style’. Currently, I feel my skills are in photography, illustration, research and the design process. I aim to work in the ‘style’ that most suits the brief, not limit myself to briefs that suit my ‘style’.

- Although I don’t work in a ‘style’, I feel my work method and personality is more suited towards a music and comedy audience. This is evidently an extremely competitive market, however, I don’t think that setting high standards is a negative thing.

- Working as part of a team if an evidently productive way of working however, when it comes to producing the work I prefer to work on my own.

- Currently, my skills are more developed in working in design for print, however, I am developing skills within design for screen at the moment and with this, I aspire to work for TV at some point in my career.

- I admire the work of freelance illustrators and graphic designers such as Mr Bingo and Mike Perry; their client base is of a similar caliber to that which I would aspire to have i.e. The Mighty Boosh, Channel 4, MTV and Vagrant Records.

- Through previous analysis, I identified that location wise, it would be better to be located in or near a big city for commuting etc.

- In terms of promoting myself, I feel that promotion via the internet and direct selling such as through a shop or gallery would be the most effective for my method of working.

- Through my SWOT analysis, I identified that having a downloadable portfolio is a strong asset to have on your website. Mike Perry has a downloadable PDF portfolio, which is a lot easier to look through rather than waiting for internet images to load up.

- As I would like to work with music, a successful method of promotion in this area, is to sponsor brand appropriate bands to wear t-shirts you have designed etc., which opens the global market, for example; A Day to Remember (an American rock band) are sponsored by Drop Dead (a Sheffield based apparel company.)

- I feel that, to start with, I would gain more experience from working freelance and then possibly become part of a collaborative team later in my career when I feel more comfortable and confident with where I ‘sit’ in the design industry.
